GENIUS

Game, Trailer, Upcoming Games

Recently I was thinking about the lack of horror games that have been out lately. I remember a massive surge of games last year or the year before ( who even knows) where loads of titles were being released like Until Dawn, Evil Within, Outlast, Silent Hill P.T, Remasters of Resident Evil 2 and Alien Isolation (and many many more).

I feel  there must always be a good horror game that will be released each year but this year i haven’t really seen any to be honest but fear not people…there are some awesome titles on the way which are going to blow previous titles out the water!!

Speaking of a good horror game on its way, i will have to mention this incredible new game called Perception!!

Perception-03

It is a narrative driven horror games focusing on a protagonist, who is a blind woman named Cassie. She navigates her way around this very old and haunted house using echolocation (WHICH IS BRILLIANT). I cant believe this is a concept no one had attempted before (and if it has been attempted, why haven’t more people done it). What makes a horror games successful in my eyes, is really keeping that element of surprise and making the player fear the unknown and not know what could be lurking around the corner.

The echolocation features add more fear and that excellent bit of restriction that you need in a horror game to keep you on your toes and alert at all times.

perception-porch_1920.0

It is also a big break from the norm in most narratives that seem to just go for the completely fit male who is just running around trying to run away from some made haunted character in a strange house. This small change to the protagonist makes perception a whole different game changer in the survival horror world and is definitely something i cant wait to see implemented in other games.

I feel the echolocation will opens your eyes in a strange way when playing the game, it makes you realise how many things around can make a sound and shows sound in a form that we don’t really acknowledge, compared to other games that is purely just added for abit of effect here and there.

perception-presence-dining-room_1920.0

With Bill Gardner (Bioshock,Bioshock Infinite) being Lead Designer on this game, I just have a good feeling they are really going to master the creepy element of this game and also a very in depth narrative that will have our heads twisting and turning whilst playing the game.

From what i have heard about the game, Cassie travels through the house and is almost exploring it through time and learning different things about this house as she goes along but what she soon discovers, is that there is a big baddie called presence i believe (or something along those lines) which is more or less an urban myth or legend with in the town but she soon learns very differently.

perception

The antagonist comes across as more of a haunted house rather than a specific human character, the house seems to react to Cassie as she explores it further and the more she makes noise, the more the house will go mad and react to her in different way, like making noises or sending certain entity type things after her.

FINAL (ish) VERDICT

Although this isn’t a complete review because i haven’t seen the final game yet, i am so excited for this game and feel the right people are behind it to really bring out the full potential of this concept and idea. Not only will it really set a high bar for just the creativity in survival horror games, i feel it will be one of those games that people will differently remember and enjoy time and time again. I look forward to the final release of the game and hope it does incredible well!!

Game, Game Reviews, Upcoming Games

I think this game has definitely been on my radar ever since i knew Olly Moss was one of the artist on the game. I mean I’m not being biased now because i really love Olly Moss’s work but this game actually looks pretty decent to be honest!

firewatch

To see a game as beautiful as this and with such a beautiful colour palette, it is hard not to be drawn to this game. Set in such a beautiful place, it gives the player such a beautiful experience visually to just sit back and play this game. It kind of reminds me abit of Journey (another great PlayStation exclusive, that everyone should definitely check out), they are quite different games in terms of narrative but in terms of the pure idilic scenery and simplistic gameplay i could definitely see a similarity in the types of players the may choose to explore this game.

firewatch_150305_06.png

A game set in the summer of 1989, you play a middle age man named Henry who befriends a woman over a walkie talkie called Delilah. You see their relationship blossom over the period of the game and you are given the choice in how this conversations go and how far your relationships will grow over time.

firewatch-e3-5

Although quite a simple concept, i feel it is a very clever one. To be honest, i feel most games now a days are really exploring the simple but effective ways in which we can all engage with a game and allowing players to really have freedom of choice rather than following a very restriction narrative path.

When watching the commentated video featuring Sean Vanaman (Writer) and Jake Rodkin (Director), they spoke about the game being set in a real place with a realistic character and i feel they done this to really give it that relatable feel and just make the dialogue and connection between the characters something to really considered and think about as you progress through the game.

Campo Santo are just a small little development company is San Francisco but i believe after this game they will definitely become a name to the remember in the industry!

With the release of this game coming out in just a few days (February 9th 2016), i cant wait to see what comes of this game. I believe it is exclusive to Playstation but will be available on Windows, Mac and Linux. So definitely look out for this title and give it ago!!

Hopefully it lives up to the great footage is has been showing up to its release!

I would definitely recommend this game to anyone to isn’t looking for a really intense game that involves combat and fighting and is more about the laid back side of gaming that merely just stimulates the mind and encourages you to dive into the narrative and really explore the characters you work with along the way.

Fingers Crossed

Game, Game Reviews, Upcoming Games

With animals being such a large part of all the Far Cry games, it is about time they really embrace that part of the franchise and really go forward with the idea of producing a game heavily dominated by your survival with these animals.

Especially with the time period they are working with, there will definitely be a beautiful array of animals to interactive with in this game (not necessarily all friendly ones).

sabertooth_hunt.0 FarCryPrimal_ConceptArt_05_Sabretooth_PR_151006_6PM_CET

I think with so many animals and tribal type vibes given off in the last game, i feel FarCry will pull off a game that looks really good and plays pretty well but story wise, i am not really sure how they will approach it.

I believe the game could could one of two ways:

Mind Blowing

The game could really incorporate features with the next generation console and really make use of the beautiful graphics and provide us with outstanding scenery and animals and introduce us to missions aren’t just using a grapple hook (very awkwardly) to get up a cliff. I really hope they make full use of the touchpad and really bring that into the game next year and just also give us a feel for a new sort of step for FarCry and really make it obvious that this is going to be something different.

The Same Old Thing

It is very easy for games to kind of give a whole new idea a go whilst still incorporated the best bits about their previous games. However i feel Primal could go either way and just be like all the other FarCry but we are not wearing tribal clothing, i think it is a great opportunity for the franchise to really broaden and branch off and bring in new fans essentially but it needs to take all the best bits of all the FarCrys and bring in some new features to really give this game its own identity (after all if they really wanted to make a whole new game it wouldn’t still have the FarCry title). I have heard comments of it being a bit like a Ice Age rip off but lets hope they conjure up an interesting story (with not too many side missions, please!) and really show us what the Stone Age had to offer

ho5Bxaj8U7lW.878x0.Z-Z96KYq farcryprimal2

I think from what i can see in this trailer and the style in which Ubisoft produce FarCry games, I feel this could be a really good game next year. I can’t wait to see what else they will release and when we can all get our hands on some gameplay.

Overall, this has now joined the list of games that have either been delayed or are being released in 2016 that i just can’t wait to see and hopefully it will stay that way as the year progresses.

The Last of Us…..2

Game, Upcoming Games

After the Live stream about Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection with Josh Scherr (writer) there is one comment that really sparked peoples interest.

All the facial animation in the Uncharted games and the first The Last of Us – uh, did i say the first The Last of Us

Now, this could mean many things:

2424169-leftbehindtlou tlou-left-behind

Left Behind

I find this very unlikely but Josh could have been referring to the DLC Left Behind that came out shortly after the game was  released but if he was just talking about the DLC i feel he wouldn’t of stuttered and stayed on the point of saying The first The Last of Us.

the-last-of-us-remastered-listing-thumb-01-ps4-us-08apr14 tlou1

The Last of Us Remastered

Hmmm, this could be an option but i doubt because it is still the game but just remastered but there quite bit of improvements that were made to the game but nothing like a different type of animation design or anything like that.

uncharted-vs-last-of-us uncharted-4-new

Those are just some suggestions for what his comment could of implied but earlier in the year Nolan North did speak about The Last of Us 2 when asked about any projects with Naughty Dog he said

Not yet, I know they’re doing The Last of Us 2

This once again sparked a lot of interested into whether the game will be made but no one from Naughty Dog has actually confirmed anything yet some it is not 100% going head yet but…i think we all know The Last of Us is definitely on the tables in the near future. Especially since Uncharted 4 will be the last instalment for the franchise so after that they may focus on The Last of Us and what is going to come from the whole series.

Silent Ninja

Game, Game Reviews

Maybe it is just me but i have literally not heard anything about this game. After being released right after the release of the film, i would of thought this game would of been extremely popular and been something that everyone was talking about but i have heard nothing.

61dcaccef9af3519a73ca76f3a8428670afc664b Screenshot-126-1940x1091

I honestly feel this is a game that is really underrated especially for how well it plays. The combat is pretty smooth and plays quite similar to the combat in Batman and it kind of get a feel of borderlands with this game but i think that is purely just because of the settings and the crazy nature of the characters in this game.

I feel this game should definitely be talked about more. Compared to some AAA titles that are coming out that aren’t that good but just get publicity because that are big names could easily be measured up to this game. Although this is only a light review and just wanted to put this post out there, i may do a deeper review in the future on this one.

First Look: Metal Gear Solid

Game, Game Reviews

I only title this review as First Look because of how insanely long the game is and there is no way i can do a full review for it now and do it justice. I have merely just touching the surface of this game and giving a little mini review on how i feel about it so far.

MGSV-header metal-gear-solid-v-5-the-phantom-pain-ps3-xbox-360-screenshots-11

CINEMACTICS

Just the introduction of this game can purely speak for how great the cinematic cutscenes are in this game. With such a rich story i was expecting a great cutscene but not that good. With such incredible detail in the cutscenes you just become fully immersed in the narrative and sometimes forget you are playing a game. And the beautiful transition from gameplay to cutscene is beautiful and something to definitely appreciate when playing the game.

metal_gear_solid_5_the_phantom_pain_17 metal_gear_solid_5_the_phantom_pain_18

GAMEPLAY

For those of you who aren’t massive fans of the cinematic cut scenes, the gameplay definitely does make up for it. I feel it is definitely a game that takes full advantage of the next gen console and producing those eye watering graphics that you expect from games now a days. The game plays very smoothly and still keeps some of the old mechanics from some of the early games and even keeps the little details, such as the famous cardboard box.

SOUNDTRACK

The-Phantom-Pain-Screenshots-3 mgsv_mgo_tga_01_web

This isn’t usually something i would make a comment about when reviewing a game but on this occasion i will definitely let you guys know about this pretty good soundtrack. For the part that i have seen of the game, the soundtrack is pretty good. Good enough for me to take notice any notice of anyway and i feel it compliments everything great about the game. It really creates that atmosphere in a game that uses all your sense and makes you really become the player within the game rather than just a robot playing a game set out for you by developers.

OVERALL

I feel (as expected) this game has blown everyone away and is doing brilliantly so far. Although a very long game, it has incredible replay value and gives the play a type of freedom to choose their style of combat and approach to a mission and explore different part of the “open world” of Metal Gear Solid. I can’t wait to see more of this game!!

Until Dawn Review

Game, Game Reviews

After months and months of anticipating this game i knew i would not be disappointed with how this game would turn out. The whole concept and idea of this game was brilliant and even if it wasn’t completely mind blowing, it would definitely show potential and spark and interest for other games that would want to experiment with techniques used in this game.

until-dawn-01

Plot

The game follows a very similar narrative to a typical teen slasher type movie but with a twist of course. It is a video game. You meet 8 friends who all decide to meet at a very unappealing scaring cabin in an isolated woods to somehow bring them closer together after a massive tragedy that happen last year but of course nothing goes to plan and crazy stuff happens but what is so lovely about this plot line is that every is moulding to the game style that you prefer and the decision you make.

until-dawn-butterfly-effect

Butterfly Effect

Although this is a concept that has been explored and tried before in this case they have referred to it as the Butterfly Effect. Suggesting that every decision you may will have an ongoing effect on the story through the game, even effecting who lives or dies in the game.

This is what i feel make the game stands out from the rest of the horror games available on the market. I know there has been countless times in horror films (on the rare occasion that i do watch one) that all the characters make the wrong decisions or decide to walk alone and leave the group or go towards the scary creepy sound BUT this game practically lets you decide if you are going to follow the typical cliche decision they make in horror films or actually keep character alive and get the decent ending. I also love that doing nothing is an option, giving the gamer even more freedom to really shape the game they want and get the story they would like.

until-dawn-screenshot-03-ps4-us-07aug14

Gameplay

Hmm in terms of gameplay, I would say it play pretty smooth. Personally i don’t think can make a major comment on the gameplay because it was a very narrative and cinematic heavy game with gameplay merely just filling the gap between major plot twist and decisions.

If i had to compare it to any other gameplay type i would say it plays quite similar to Quantic Dreams Heavy Rain. Using one analogue stick for walking and the other to move the touch or light for the character.

games_1437565356 gaming-until-dawn-screenshot-4

What could of been better?

I feel at some points the narrative was drawn out bit. Especially the bit with the doctor guy who kept asking you as the player questions about how you play and what scares you. At first i thought it was a brilliant and clever idea but then nearer the end the whole concept started to get confusing and made me lose interest in that whole section of the game.

And in terms of replay value i feel the game has a decent amount of content that you could play over again and get different endings for the overall game but after playing it once i don’t think i would play the game again. The jump scares and scary moments in the game would literally become pointless because you would know when they were coming and anticipate the scare rather just react naturally.

Overall

As a whole i feel this game did pretty well for the first sort of horror game to really try out this method. I feel it has set a good bar for the next games to follow and attempt this concept. I would love to see where these games go next especially on next gen consoles.

Hitman E3 2015 Review

Game, Game Reviews, Upcoming Games

Hmm watching this trailer was quite interesting during the Playstation conference. I was not expecting it at all but when i saw the first few moments of it, i just somehow knew it was Hitman. I like the new feel it has to it, almost like Hitman has had a upgrade or some sort for the next gen console but you can still get that original Hitman feeling…if that makes any sense haha

Sooo lets get down to business…

The Goodies

I am a sucker for a really good cinematic and this was definitely a good cinematic for the game. I like that it has that sort of movie film to it and there was no cliche voice over to talk you through the trailer, it just allowed you as the viewer to embrace and learn about the game as the time goes on. Almost as if the game will just speak for its self and no words are required.

The trailer actually reminded me of how one of the early Watchdog trailers came across but that isnt necessarily a good thing because the game didn’t really resemble that trailer BUT otherwise the trailer looked good!!

I did have a look at the gameplay trailer but wasn’t too impressed in terms of graphics but i was impressed with the idea of having your own style when performing your assassinations and being given the room to improvise when playing the game. I also thought It was super awesome that they gave players the option to explore the world and access time limited missions that will only surface once. This just scream massive replay value and suggest that the game will also be relevant in providing new a fresh content compared to other games that already have programmed missions.

As I have said in previous reviews, next generation console are taking the open world to a whole new level and really challenging the player to really play how they would like to play and make the game all about them. Especially with a game like Hitman that is all about being that solo top assassin, the style of an open world game is something that would compliment Hitman perfectly and everything it is all about. Every assassin has their own style and the new game is all about bring that out of the player

Uncharted 4 E3 Gameplay Review

Game Reviews, Upcoming Games

I would have to say that Playstation conference was pretty good. I wasn’t blown away but it was good. It was almost like they thought more about what the fans were looking for and wanted and not necessarily trying to chuck out a massive line of games coming out this year.

BUT

Just when you thought the conference was over, they suddenly state that there is just a bit more time for one more title and you just knew what it was going to be.

As the black screen loaded and you saw the infamous Naughty Dog logo, you knew what was coming. All I could think was, “How are they going to top the last release of gameplay for Uncharted”

New Features – Well the ones loved anyway

  • No interruption when in cover

This is something that could be consider so small and i guess i noticed more when playing online but it something i really appreciate. To be able to be in cover and flawless move around the other person whilst in combat especially is something very important and I am happy they added that in.

  • More of an open world feel

When playing Uncharted in the past, I have also noticed that the game is very linear and always encouraged you to go in the right direction when playing the game. There was no real room to really explore the area or go off track somewhere and explore another mission but when watching gameplay at E3 it seems that Uncharted are really making full use of the next generation consoles.

To be honest it feel like most games now a days are creating that open world feel and it is nice to see a classic like Uncharted is taking this idea forward.

I think the explorative feel is all about giving the player more power and control and giving them the options to really make the game their game and create their own style when playing.

  • DRIVING!!!!

This was something loads of people noticed and was a big step for the Uncharted series. I am honestly not the best driver in any video game but I was crazy excited that you can drive and will be definitely giving that a go. I love that you can drive off road too and once again really take full use of the open world feel of the game.

I also enjoy the little feature of being able to use the grapple hook and change from driving into control the aim of the grapple. For some reason i just loved it and i can’t wait for those kind of surprises in the final edition of the game.

So to conclude…

I feel  Uncharted will still be the game we all know but it has just been taken to a whole new level. Beautiful graphics, incredibly flawless combat and of coursing driving are all things that are going to make Uncharted one of the best games to be released next year. Staying up at 2 in the morning was definitely worth it to watch the whole Playstation conference but also see a bit more Uncharted

Beyond Two Souls Coming to the PS4

Game, Game Reviews, Update

After having a pretty decent conference at E3, i then hear news of PS4 planning to bring games like Beyond Two Souls on the next gen console with a deleted scene to come along with it.

Quantic Dream (The developers) are all about the interactive story that really engages you as a player and gets you to make conscious decisions as you play throughout the game in order to get the prefer ending to the story.

Brief Outline of the Plot

You play as a young woman called Jodie at different and key moments throughout her life. You could go from being 8 year old Jodie to 18 year old Jodie in two different missions but it is like massive puzzle of her life and you as a player are putting all these parts of her life together and trying to make sense and a conclusion of the whole thing.

Will it work on the PS4

Personally i believe this game will be perfect for the PS4. I think they could of even waited to just release it solely on the PS4 because i feel like a game of that nature will really use all the features available on the next ten console like the touchpad on the controller.

Hope in the future I will do a few walkthroughs on my channel for you guys out there that have never experience Beyond Two Souls!! Definitely a game to check out!! I will also be considering to play another Quantic Dream called Heavy Rain.

Heavy Rain has a similar gameplay style and narrative but a larger variety in characters and situation and more of  narrative that puts you in very pressurise situation and circumstances.

BUT YES back to what we were saying!!! I can’t wait for Beyond Two Souls to come to PS4 and look forward to how they really use the facilities available on next gen to make the game even better.
